Proton is full of success

12 May 2005

Proton has strengthened it's successful dealer recruitment team with the employment of three dealer recruitment consultants. Jarvis Simpson, Campbell Oliver and Mick Rowe have been tasked with the targeted recruitment of 60 dealers in the next 12 months.

The new recruits share a wealth of experience between them. Jarvis Simpson, who was previously National Business Development Manager for the MG Rover Group, will be managing recruitment in the South. Campbell Oliver will be managing Scotland and Northern Ireland. Campbell previously worked for Proton as an Area Sales Manager between 1997 and 2000 and has since worked for Mitsubishi. Mick Rowe (managing Midlands and North) was formerly an Area Business Manager for the MG Rover Group.

In addition to this, a direct marketing campaign has been targeted at franchised dealerships in key open points. The campaign has so far had an extremely positive response with several new dealers being appointed.

Proton car sales are up despite product supply problems in January and February. Car sales in March were up by 2%, in a market that was down by 5%. April has also been an excellent month, with car sales up over 26%.

The current Proton range is expanding to offer a full range of vehicles. Proton's five door city car the TRM is due to be launched imminently in Malaysia and will arrive in the UK later this year. The SRM, three door supermini is due for UK launch in quarter one of 2006. Other models being developed include a small MPV and a Satria GTi replacement.

PCUKL will be taking current dealers, recent appointments and applicants on a trip to Malaysia in late June 2005. The trip will include a visit to the new state of the art factory at Tanjung Malim in central Malaysia, a ride and drive of the brand new TRM and a viewing of the Satria replacement, due for UK launch in Q1 2006.
